Baking Day

Some days I feel like baking and Saturday was one of those days. I had apples to use up and Lynette had been begging for apple pie so I thought I would make some. The mixer arm I broke has been replaced by a new one from ebay that needed some minor repairs and greased so I was too lazy to make mom's good pie crust recipe by hand so I just used one from the cookbook. I remember why I don't use any other recipe besides Mom's. Rerolling the crust makes it TOUGH! Mom's doesn't. The first little pies I made were perfect, but the eating the last ones was like chewing on shoe leather. I made pumpkin bread, but I wasn't impressed. I woule rather eat pie. I like zucchini bread, period. I made apple crisp, too, and put most of this stuff in the freezer. We had the last little apple pie for breakfast this morning.
Some days it is easier to get lots of things done and that was one of those days. I had to be finished before Lynette's birthday party at 1pm. It was cancelled the week before because she had the 'flu. It was a nicer day and all the girls could come this week. They had a treasure hunt and played outside. So, I baked, decorated a cake layer and a cookie, cleaned the kitchen, vacuumed made koolaid, planned and set the treasure hunt, and had the laundry done except for the folding. When the girls arrived I sat down in my nice clean house and ripped out my current knitting project because I didn't like it and started again and had a LOVELY afternoon knitting. My favorite way to spend a Saturday.

Wow, you really did have a busy day. And, busy with accomplishment, which is much nicer than being crazy busy & feeling like you were going in circles & nothing was done anyway!

I love days like that, you notice I didn't have Zane that day. =)

you must have started early too! With a less demanding day ahead of you, it is easier to get an early start isn't it?

Kit-Kat is still interested in learning to knit...too bad I did not retain the skill from the little I learned as a kid! Mom used to knit mittens for us....I remember some particularly nice ones she made from some bright verigated colored yarn...

Yay, for Katie, I love when the young ones learn the skills of long ago, they are still very useful and fun and satisfying.
